Mexican Design With A Cast Iron Twist
This stunning Granada Cast Iron Chiminea is inspired by the traditional Mexican design but with the benefits of being built from cast iron.
Although clay is a popular choice for a more traditional chiminea they don't match up to the qualities of cast iron. After time and use the clay walls of the chiminea may begin to show signs of hairline fractures that widen over time and weaken the whole unit.
Cast iron is robust and impervious to the highest levels of heat from the fire inside, as well as being impervious to the frost of winter.
Keep Your Patio Area Warm
This Granada cast iron chiminea is designed and built to heat the surrounding areas of your patio, garden or wherever you place it outdoors.
Capable of building a roaring fire inside to keep you warm and toasty during the coldest winters, this unit radiates plenty of heat to the surrounding areas, meaning you can sit and socialise outside anytime of the year, despite the cold!
Unlike a firepit, a chiminea is much more efficient at burning fuel and keeping the air and space around it nice and warm.
Easy To Clean
With an easy to access underside it becomes a simple matter to empty out the ash from within and clean it out.
Clay units usually have no easy way to empty the ash out which can make it a chore when it comes time to clean, who wants that?
Stunning Design
With its traditional design and robust build this Granada Chiminea will look stunning in any garden or outdoor patio area.
Curing Your Chiminea
The best practice when using a new chiminea is to cure it before using it for the first time, don't worry, this is actually a very simple process!
It simply helps to ensure the fireproof paint is bonded sufficiently to the metal and gets the whole thing used to the heat through a gradual process.
The first step is to build a small fire out of paper, light it, close the door and let it slowly burn itself out.
You should then repeat the process but this time with a small fire made from kindling instead.
Repeat the second step with the kindling fire twice more.
Each time there will be heat given out from these small fires but a small amount compared to when you use the chiminea properly.
This process will cure the chiminea and afterwards it will be ready to be used properly.
Maintenance
Because many chimeneas are made from metal they are liable to rust if left in wet conditions for long periods of time.
If they are looked after and certain precautions are taken, then the risk of rusting is greatly minimised.
If however, they do show sign of starting to rust then they can simply be painted in the affected area with the fire-proof paint that they come coated with.
To be sure that your chimenea is well cared for and to protect it from the elements, we recommend that you use a cover to protect it from the damp and the rain.
Lighting Your Cast Iron Chimenea
A chimenea is capable of burning a number of different types of material as fuel, giving you a few choices.
Since you'll be using it for heat and for cooking there are 2 main fuel groups that we suggest you use.
These are briquettes (or charcoal) and also hardwoods.
The easiest way to get a fire going inside the chiminea is to build a structure similar to a tepee made from kindling with a firelighter in the middle.
Once you light it the fire will begin to spread across the kindling, this is the time to begin to take the smallest pieces of hardwood and stack them against the structure, allowing the fire to grow.
You can start using larger pieces of the hardwood fuel once the fire is burning merrily.
